Gender Centre Library

The Gender Centre Library is part of our commitment to provide resource information to transgender and transsexual individuals, their partners, parents, families and friends. The information in our library also aims to assist with the provision of education and up-to-date information to the public, employers and service providers about the needs of gender diverse and transgender people as well as those that are in the process of exploring their gender-identity. Library Book Borrowing To borrow from our library you will first need to become a member of the library. To join our library you will need to provide identification (perhaps your driver's license or pension card), and a telephone contact. This information will be reviewed every time you borrow a book. You will be able to borrow one book at a time, for up to two weeks at a time. This is due to the limited number of books available and the high demand from the community. Please take good care of our books, many of our resources have been removed or taken from our service and not returned. This is very unfortunate as they are part of quite a unique resource in New South Wales Our books are purchased in limited quantities and appear on our Book List when available. If there is a book you feel the Gender Centre should have in our Library, please let us know. You may also consider donating a book to the Centre if you feel it may be a valuable resource to others in our community. Magazines/Newsletters The Gender Centre Library also has a large number of magazines and newsletters that while not available to be borrowed, can be read at the Centre. Many of these magazines and newsletters are published by other services like the Gender Centre, and other communities that deal with issues similar to those of our own and therefore may be of interest to the gender diverse, transgender people as well as those that are in the process of questioning their gender-identity. Film & Television Archive The Gender Centre Library Film & Television Archive consists mainly of recorded television programmes featuring articles/stories relevant to the gender diverse, transgender people as well as those that are in the process of questioning their gender-identity. Items in this archive are not available to be borrowed, but as with our magazine and newsletter collection, they may be viewed at the Gender Centre. To view an item from this archive, please contact the Resource Development Worker to arrange an appointment.
