Josephine Williams, known to everyone as Josie, died on 29 June 2003.

A Memorial Service was held for Josie at Wairua Tapu in Redfern on 5 July, attended by many of her friends. Josie was a friend to all, and will be missed.

The eulogy was delivered by Carmen, a close friend with many ties to Josie. Comments received at Polare included:

" Josie was a most caring person and was well respected by her own community and by others. Over the past two years, I spent of lot of time with her at her home and we spoke on many issues. I knew her for many years and will miss her and her conversations. I could always speak to her about anything. She will be missed by all."

Love Tricia.

"Josie's connections and networks are legendary, and she was an important part of several communities. When I heard she'd passed on, I spent the night talking with her, knowing that this was probably just in my imagination, for the real Josie's spirit would have had a great number of people to talk to! I still talk with her occasionally, and to me, more than ever, she is truly larger than life! May all who knew her remember her beaming smile.
