Amale to female woman has successfully had her hospital records changed to show her gender/sex as female. She has not had surgery, but has a permanent female identity. She had been known by the hospital in her pre-transition identity, but they were happy to change their records at her request, since it would only cause confusion if records currently available referred to her in a way that does not now apply to her.

This was not down as a direct result of the recent legislation. The recording of a service users sex/gender by a hospital is usually not a matter of law, but of convenience. The hospital agreed that it would be more convenient to have the appropriate gender on all of their records. (It had been there partially, on records made after transition, but has now been changed on records entered prior to transition.)

The woman in question contacted us for support and advice, but she did the actual work of talking to the hospital and have them agree to this change.

Congratulations on this successful outcome and thank you for allowing us to share this inspiring story. We may not be able to change the whole world at once, but bit by bit, even as individuals we can make a difference!
