The Office of the Director of Equal Opportunity in Public Employment (ODEOPE), have offered to provide a briefing session to transgender people about their role and the services they offer.

The agency adhere to strict guidelines of Equal Employment Opportunity (E.E.O.), and are responsible for ensuring that state government departments actively implement E.E.O. policies in the workplace. This effectively means that employees are selected purely on merit, the best person for the job, regardless of age, sex, race, transgender status etc.

The Gender Centre is currently conducting training programs for staff and E.E.O. directors from ODEOPE, and the various government departments they are responsible for, to raise awareness of transgender issues.

We are planning to receive reciprocal training from ODEOPE in September and would encourage as many transgender people as possible to attend, to present a clear message of our desire for equity in employment. This is a valuable opportunity to make a stand for transgender rights. ODEOPE are trany friendly but we need to show them that these are important issues to us if we expect them to be active on our behalf.

The meeting, location, date and time is yet to be confirmed and this will be advertised in the August edition of Polare.
